Cisco 4900 Series

High-performance switching for data center top of rack applications and space
constrained LAN aggregation in branch deployments.

The Catalyst 4900 Series are a compact form factor (1-2RU) family of switches providing wire speed GE and 10GbE connectivity and services for top of rack server aggregation in the data center and for space constrained branch collapsed core/distribution LAN aggregation. The Catalyst 4900 Series includes four Layer 2–4 fixed-configuration switches.

The Catalyst 4948 switch offers 48 ports of wire-speed 10/100/1000BASE-T with four alternative wired ports that can accommodate optional 1000BASE-X Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) optics.

The Catalyst 4948-10GbE switch offers 48 ports of wire-speed 10/100/1000BASE-T with two wire-speed 10 Giga bit Ethernet (10GbE) up links via optional 10GbE (X2) optics. The Catalyst 4928-10GbE switch offers 28 wire-speed Small Form-Factor Plug-gable (SFP) ports with two wire-speed 10 Giga bit Ethernet (10GbE) up links via optional 10GbE (X2) optics.

The Cisco Catalyst 4900M is a 320-Gbps,two-rack-unit (2RU) semi-fixed configuration switch with 8 fixed wire-speed 10GbE ports on the base unit and 2 optional half-card slots for deployment flexibility.Three half-card modules provide additional 10GbE density or 10/100/1000 copper ports. The 8 port half card supports 1 GE SFPs via the Twin Gig adapter. All models provide exceptional reliability and serviceability, supporting optional internal AC or DC 1 + 1 hot-swappable power supplies and a hot-swappable fan tray with redundant fans.

These switches are available with either the IP Base Software image or the Enterprise Services Software image. The Enterprise Services Software additionally supports Shortest Path First (OSPF),Intermediate System-to-Intermediate System (IS-IS),Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP),and Border Gateway Protocol(BGP).
